Ramadan Diaries 2016

Entry No. 12                                                                                      14/07/2015

I like to keep my makeup minimal when I leave the house. For the last iftar this summer, my go-to look is vibrantly colored matte lips and, of course, I never leave the house without a few stroke of mascara. I always go for shades of red for a summer ’15 ready look.

For tonight’s Ramadani gathering, I wanted to try out a new look for my hair. So naturally I dug through my drawer of accessories when I fell on this nautical inspiration: a navy and white stripe turban headband. My look for the evening turned out to be fresh and effortless with a messy side braid (which is all too easy with my crazy curly hair), tamed down with this sleek headpiece.

Entry no. 9                                                                         07/07/2015

Diving into the ocean searching for sunken treasure is the theme behind Elie Saab Spring/Summer 2015 Paris fashion week. The palette is energetic and tropical inspired by the Amalfi sea.

One of our favorite trends of the season (and most appropriate for Ramadan) is the classic khaki, which graced the spring/summer '15 runways ever so eloquently and frequently. Our fashion tip of the day is to echo safari charm and military glamour – be it via linen pants, trench coat, fedora hat, midi skirt or jumpsuit. Choose what you will just as long as you nail that ubiquitous shade.

إعلان زين لرمضان 2015 | Zain 2015 Ramadan TVC

Entry No. 7                                                                                                              02/07/2015

As much i hate commercials during Ramadan cause it takes forever, i have to give it to Zain for this amazing TVC. The music, the energy and the lyrics brings this positive spirit to the soul despite all whats happening in our arb countires. Listen to it we might actually believe there is still hope for a better day.

Just because it’s Ramadan and you’re fasting, it doesn’t mean you can’t keep active. Try a bit of stretching, yoga or a short walk. A 30-minute yoga session or a light jog just before iftar is just what you need to energise.

Entry No. 5                                                                            29/06/15

For a healthier Ramadan, take a short afternoon nap on those days you feel particularly groggy or grouchy. A catnap can take you far by reenergizing your body in a very healthy, refreshing way. Moreover, it’ll help adjust your Ramadan schedule and ease you into waking up early for Suhour.

Just because it’s Ramadan, it doesn’t mean you can’t travel. My suggestion as to where to enjoy your Ramadan abroad is none other than Turkey, the third most popular destination during the holy month. Visit the Sultanahmet Square in Istanbul to revel in traditional Ramadan festivities and indulge in delectable Turkish bites offered at the bazaars.

Poached eggs with avocado on toast

If you’re watching your weight, make sure NOT to skip suhoor! Keep it healthy and portioned to keep your metabolism active. For a filling and healthy suhoor, indulge in a bowl of oatmeal with milk and berries or poached eggs with avocado on toast. Finish off with a side of fresh fruits for dessert.

So while your male friends are pondering over which card game to play tonight – whether Trix or Tarneeb – you’re probably fretting over what to wear!  Here’s my Ramadan fashion tip of the day:

Throw on a pair of floral print palazzo pants with a basic tee and Converse sneakers. Feel comfortable and chic as you crush your opponents in style!
