Hubert James Taffin de Givenchy dreamt of working at Balenciaga at a very early age. He went into the world of fashion as a studio design assistant for Jacques Fath at the age of 17. Givenchy moved around, elevating his status and improving his design and technical skills. His big break came when he worked as Elsa Schiaparelli’s creative director and transformed the store into the first couture ready-to-wear shop. Four years later, at the age of 24, the French designer launched his own haute couture house and ‘a star was born’ –New York Times.
