June marks the official start of summer and the official end of the Holy month. If you're anything like us, you can't wait to go on an escape to refresh, rejuvenate and tan your way into the the sunny season. Here are a few not-so-typical ideas for your next vacay:
A City Break
We bet you never thought of visiting the land of fire for Eid before now, but here are a just few reasons why you should. Azerbaijan's capital, Baku, combines the future with tradition. Walking down the streets, you'll get to see modern, striking buildings surrounded by perfectly restored ancient architecture. Wander around the old city exploring the Palace of the Shirvanshahs, which was built in the 15th century and includes a mosque, bathhouse, and mausoleum, as well the famous Maiden Tower with its great views of the city. Visit one of Azerbaijan’s most famous sites, Yanar Dağ; or “Burning Mountain“, a natural glowing fire burning on a hillside along the Caspian Sea. True to its name, the mountain has been blazing for at least 65 years! If its vast history and culture aren't reason enough, it'll also be a very cheap trip.
An Island Escape
Named the island of eternal spring, Madeira is the ultimate destination for every traveler. Not only is it a picturesque mountainous island located off of Africa’s northwest coast, it just so happens to be celebrating its 600th anniversary (since its discovery, that is) which means lots of celebrations and events. The autonomous Portuguese destination is famous for its wine, year-round pleasant weather and volcanic beaches. This dream destination offers lots of activities including hiking, swimming with whales and dolphins, mountain biking, canyoning and paragliding. Don't forget to try their specialty seafood dish; black scabbard with bananas
Happy anniversary, Madeira!
A Cruise Holiday
Why not try something different this Eid? Cruise the Mediterranean on the Norwegian Epic; a 4-night paradise jam-packed with excitement for couples, families and even the brave solo travelers. The Las Vegas-esque ship departs from Rome and stops at the ports of Florence, Cannes, Palma de Mallorca and Barcelona where you can spend the day exploring before you board again and head to your next destination. A Beach Getaway
Situated in the heart of the Arabian desert, Salalah in Oman is a mind-blowing haven. Salalah is famous for its unique Khareef festival (monsoon) which starts in June and turns the entire city into a breathtaking green; the flora and fauna are in full bloom. Relish the crystal clear waters and white sandy beaches and take in the natural fountains, waterfalls and lakes. Scuba dive into the gorgeous waters of Salalah, or if you're not the scuba diving type, try a boat ride. It's THE place to revitalize, renew and refresh (and of course, go back home with bronzed skin!).
