The Fall/Winter '17 Trend Report
Posted on 10 October 2017
Confused about what to wear and what to buy this cold season? Well, we’ve done the dirty work for you. In sum, '70s influences and vintage vibes stole the spotlight at the Fall/Winter '17 runway shows. While some designers went heavy on asymmetrical cuts and silhouettes, others went all out with all red ensembles, florals and flashy silver.
Here's our style picks of the season.
1. Lady in Red
There's not doubt about it, red is the color of the season! From over-the-knee boots by Fendi to all red ensembles at Givenchy, this is a color worth investing in for Fall/Winter '17.
2. Check Mate
Plaid dominated the runways with designers including Stella McCartney, Prada, Marni and Bottega using the '70s print on everything from suits to coats and even gowns at the Jenny Packham show.
3. Fancy Feathers
Think opulence, luxury and glamour with this season's feathery details. From gowns, to jackets and sleeves, feminine feathers are a must this fall.
4. Deconstructed Cuts
If you love asymmetry, you'll love this trend! Designers have reconstructed the classics and upgraded the basics. We saw a one-sided sleeveless suit at Ports 1961, and mixing of fabrics and textiles at Burberry, DVF and Thome Browne.
5. Fall Florals
Who said florals are for spring? Blooms are in this season. From Balenciaga, Vivienne Westwood and Delpozo, to Mulberry, Coach and Gucci, flowers took all shapes and forms.
6. The Power Suit
This year is the year of the pantsuit. We saw oversized cuts in Céline, Jil Sander and Victoria Beckham, whereas others, such as Altuzarra, gave us bold stripes. Brock Collection showed us romantic red and white gingham.
7. Silver Sparkles
We can't help but sing Rihanna's 'shine bright like a diamond' verse in our head with this season's shiny silver and metallic sparkles craze.
8. When Boxy Met Sweet
Designers including Victoria Beckham, Sacai and Dior are mixing boxy, chunky sweaters with feminine flouncy mid-length skirts.
9. Denim Duty
With a revival of the overall vintage Americana, it's no wonder the denim-on-denim trend has resurfaced. Go all out with ripped, oversized cuts as in Sacai, or mix denim shades as in the Public School runway.
10. The Trench
This season, you'll be warming up in a re-imagined trench coat. Fashion houses like Céline, Maison Margiela, and Burberry are adding cool, modern twists to the basic trench.
