Q&A with Egyptian Actress Georgina Tawaf

by Noor Judeh |

Georgina Tawaf is acting in her first Ramadan series, Al Zawga 18, and we needed to know more about it! We had a talk with the 24 year-old actress about her experiences in the industry, her role in the series, and more.

How did you get into acting?
I've always wanted to act, sing and dance. Ever since I was a little kid, I used to participate at the school's theatre and then the university's theatre. Two years ago, I got a really small role by chance in a Ramadan series and I loved it. Afterward, I thought to myself "why don't I do this professionally?" and decided to take workshops, study and then try to establish myself as an actress and so it happened.

As a newcomer in the film world, what are some challenges you’re facing? What are the things you didn’t expect?
It's so hard to prove yourself when there are so many talented people already in the field. I went to hundreds of auditions and every time it was a disappointment. Finally, it worked this year and I didn't expect my first big role to be as fun as this one, the whole crew and cast are amazing, the director, Mostafa Fekry, believed in me big time and tried to get the best out of me. Hassan El Raddad was also super supportive, more than I would have ever imagined! It's been a truly amazing and fun experience.

Give us a hint about what’s coming in the coming episodes of Al Zawga 18?
Well I can't say much but the wives are about to get fooled big time.

If you could act alongside anyone in the world who would it be?
 Hmmm, tough one!! Many.
Al Pacino, Robert di Nero, Keanu Reeves, Robert Downey Jr., the list is endless and there are some from every country!

What can you tell us about the role you are playing?
It's a fun comedic role. I'm one of the wives who Hamza Hassan El Radda gets married to a few years ago and then divorced as per his habit of doing so. He changes his wives often and when he meets my character again after a while, he doesn't even remember her. He starts flirting with her as if it's the first time they've met, so she has some fun with it and plays along.

Where would you rank acting in a list of all the things you do and why?
Currently number 1 because it's a passion and a dream that I've had as I told you earlier, since I was a child, and now it's coming true. Baby steps yes, but still coming true nonetheless! I'm super thankful, happy, and excited for what's coming next and I get to play different characters who are far away from who Georgina is. I get to be different people with different lifestyles and that in itself is amazing!

How does acting in a series compare to doing commercials?
Acting is harder, commercials are usually a one-time thing, you don't get to do much acting, and you don't dive into the character you're playing. In a series, you build that character and you live with her for about 3-4 months, talking like her, dressing like her and you have to remain focused.

Can you tell us a funny backstage story?
I can't recall just one thing since the backstage moments are always fun, the whole cast has an amazing spirit so when we were not studying, we spend our time dancing, singing, and having fun.
