Let's be honest, we all dream of long, think, voluminous lashes to frame our eyes and get the "I woke up like this" look. But who has the patience to stick those natural-looking multi-use lashes on a daily basis? Not a lot of us. So we're looking into lash extensions, or semi-permanent lashes. Here's everything you need to know before heading to your beautician.
1. They must be applied by a professional
Unlike temporary lashes, lash extensions are applied by experience technicians by hand-gluing the semi-permanent lashes onto your natural lashes. Hence, it is crucial that you research the beautician before heading there. As one of our contributors mentions when she tried it: "the glue was applied incorrectly and my eye got swollen and infected and I had to get rid of them immediately".
We certainly don't want that!
2. They last longer
With the proper care, they last up to 8 weeks until they naturally fall out. Experts recommend using serums to keep them nourished, going easy on mascara (cause you don't really need it at that point), and using an oil-free makeup remover.
3. Your eyes matter
What your eyes can handle affects the type of lashes you can apply. You don't want heavy lashes that will keep your eyes drowsy and down.
4. They come in three forms
Synthetic, silk and mink... and it all depends on your natural lashes.
Mink lashes are feather-like and light but are more expensive.
5. Keep water away
for the first 12 to 24 hours in order to prevent the glue not sticking properly.
6. They won't ruin your natural lashes
While there are debates about this, lash extensions, when done properly and professionally, do not ruin your natural lashes. Make sure you research the beautician properly and find someone who is certified and trained.
